STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team defeated the DePaul Blue Demons, 5-1 on Sunday afternoon at Burrill Family Field. The Huskies have now won nine straight games and have gotten off to a 3-0 start in BIG EAST action.

Hope Jenkins got the nod in the circle in the series finale, picking up her second win of the season. She tossed 5.0 scoreless innings only giving up one hit with two strikeouts.

UConn jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Jana Sanden opened the scoring with a double to left field, scoring Grace Jenkins from first base. Hope Jenkins followed Sanden with a two run home run to center field, her fourth of the year, giving the sophomore a comfortable lead in the circle.

In the third inning Hope Jenkins crushed her second home run of the game, a two run shot and her fifth of the year, making it 5-0 Huskies. Jenkins now has five multi-RBI, and four multi-hit games this season.

Delaney Nagy came in relief for Jenkins in the sixth inning making her third appearance of the season. She pitched one inning giving up one hit and a run with a strikeout.

DePaul got their lone run of the game in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly.

Meghan O'Neil came on to close out the win in the seventh tossing a scoreless frame finishing with two strikeouts.

UConn returns to action this week with a pair of in-state midweek matchups at home. The first coming on Tuesday, March 19 at 3:00pm as the Huskies host Central Connecticut State. UConn will then square off against Yale on Wednesday, March 20 at 2:00pm. TICKETS
