PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The UConn baseball team (8-11) travels to Rutgers this weekend for its final non-conference series of the season, beginning on Friday, March 22 at 4 p.m. at Bainton Field. Game two of the series is slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday and the series finale is a 1 p.m. start on Sunday. All three games can be viewed on Big Ten Plus or heard on MIXLR.
The Huskies are coming off a victory in their home opener at Elliot Ballpark, 14-8, against LIU on Wednesday. The 14 runs and 10 walks for the UConn offense were both season-highs. The Huskies have won five of seven entering this weekend including a series win last weekend at Cal Baptist.Â
Rutgers (15-6) is riding a five-game win streak coming into play and their offense has been one of the best in the country. Their .338 batting average ranks seventh in the country and are second in the nation with 266 hits. Josh Kuroda-Grauer is hitting .452 and his 42 hits are the most of any player in Division I. His teammate Trevor Cohen (.418) is right behind him with 41 hits this season.Â
The Huskies and Scarlet Knights are even in the all-time series at 34-34 with the last trip to Piscataway coming back in 2013 when both teams were in the BIG EAST Conference. Last year, the two teams faced off in Storrs with the Huskies winning all three games in a tightly contested series that featured a pair of walk-off wins for the Huskies.Â
