Huskies Take On Akron in BIG EAST Semifinal

STORRS, Conn. – The No. 3 seed UConn men's soccer team (10-3-4) is set to face the No. 2 seed Akron Zips in the 2025 BIG EAST Tournament Semifinal on Thursday, November 13. Kickoff is set for 5:00pm at the Maryland SoccerPlex and will be available to stream on ESPN+. TICKETS
Entering the tournament, UConn has won two straight and went unbeaten in their last four matches to close out their regular season slate going 3-0-1. The Huskies recorded three clean sheets in that stretch, bringing their season total to eight.
UConn garnered a league best six All-BIG EAST selections on Wednesday afternoon, highlighted by Sabri Hanni earning a first team nod. Four Huskies landed on the second team in Kyle Durham, Charlie Holmes, Ayoub Lajhar, and Nicolas Tomerius. Austin Brummett rounded out the Huskies recognition with a third team selection.
Brummett leads the Huskies with seven goals, and 17 points this season with three of those goals being game winners. Hanni has been a consistent presence in the midfield this season, starting in all 17 matches while recording three goals and five assists for a total of 11 points. Durham has anchored the Huskies back line this season. He leads all BIG EAST goalkeepers in saves (78), saves per game (4.59), and save percentage (.830).
A Look at Akron
The Akron Zips (11-3-3, 5-2-1 BIG EAST) are riding a six-game unbeaten streak to close out their regular season slate. Akron beat Creighton, 1-0 in their regular season finale to earn their second consecutive BIG EAST Midwest Division title. The Zips placed five on All-BIG EAST teams and collected two of the six major awards with the Offensive Player of the Year in Stefan Dobrijevic, and Goalkeeper of the Year in Mitch Budler. Akron is coached by Jared Embick in his 13th season.
Series History
UConn was victorious in the regular season meeting between the two sides at Akron. After trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Huskies scored three goals in the final 57 minutes to secure a 3-1 win over the then-No. 10 ranked Zips. The win marked the first victory between the two sides in the all-time series as the record stood at 0-0-3 prior to this season's matchup.
