Huskies Drop Season Opener to Syracuse

STORRS, Conn. – No. 24 UConn men's soccer fell to the Syracuse Orange, 2-1 on Thursday evening at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. The defeat marks the Huskies first loss in a season opening match since 2022.
Syracuse started the match on the front foot, forcing UConn goalkeeper Kyle Durham to make an early save in the first minute. Durham finished with six saves.
Syracuse opened the scoring in the 28th minute, giving the Orange an early 1-0 advantage.
The Huskies had several opportunities through corner kicks but were unable to convert, leaving the score 1-0 in favor of the Orange at the end of the first half. Syracuse edged UConn in shots, 5-3 in the opening half.
UConn began the second half with early pressure on Syracuse's defense, earning three corner kicks in the first three minutes. Despite the Huskies pressure, Syracuse extended its lead to 2-0 in the 72nd minute.
UConn responded with senior forward Elijah Langford finding the back of the net off a free kick in the 85th minute, netting his first goal in a UConn uniform and narrowing the gap to 2-1.
UConn continued to push for a late equalizer, with junior defender Abel Ador hitting the right post off a header from a corner kick in the closing moments of the match.

UConn will head to UMASS on Sunday, August 23. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm.
