The UConn Huskies are on the road for their final regular season game of the season on Saturday afternoon at Florida Atlantic. The Huskies and Owls kick-off on ESPN+ at 3 pm
The 2025 Huskies are one of only two Group of Five teams nationally to earn 2 wins this season over Power 4 schools (UConn, Tulane). UConn is 2-1 against P4 teams this season, posting a 37-34 win vs. Duke at home and a 38-23 win at Boston College.
The UConn Huskies returned to AP Top-25 poll this week for the first time since the final poll of the 2010 season. The Huskies were among the teams receiving votes after improving to 8-3 on the season. The Huskies improved to 19-7 over their last 26 games.
UConn notched their eighth win on the season thanks to a 26-16 win over Air Force at home last Saturday. The Huskies have 8+ wins and a winning record in back-to-back for first time since 2009 & 2010. A win over FAU will give UConn back-to-back 9-win seasons for the first time in program history and will also mark the most wins in back-to-back seasons in program history.
The win over the Falcons also clinched a 6-0 record at home, just the third unbeaten season at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field and first since 2010. The Huskies are 12-1 at home over the last two seasons, the best two-year stretch in the stadium's history. During that stretch, UConn averaged 38.5 ppg and outscored opponents 500-231. The Huskies have won eight-straight at The Rent dating back to 2024.
The Huskies have the fourth longest streak in college football of games played without losing by more than one score. The Huskies sit at 23-straight games, dating back to the 2024 season opener. Miami is first at 27 games, Ole Miss and Ohio State are second at 26 followed by UConn.
Running back Cam Edwards barreled his way to 165 yards, 150 coming in the second half, of last week's win over Air Force and in doing so, became the first Husky running back since 2019 to hit 1,000 yards for a season. Edwards is the 14th UConn running back in school history to run for 1,000 yards in a season.
With Cam Edwards hitting 1,000 yards rushing and wide receiver Skyler Bell at 1,153 yards receiving this fall, the duo become the first UConn running back-wide receiver combo to reach a 1,000 yards in a season during the FBS era (2003-present). The last time a RB-WR combo hit the century mark in the same season at UConn was 1988 when WR Glenn Antrum (1,130) and RB George Booth (1,002) did it. Those have been the only two occasions at UConn since the 1952 season.
The UConn defense has a pair of linebackers among the top-tacklers in the nation in r-senior Bryun Parham and r-freshman Oumar Diomande. Parham is fifth in the nation with 108 total tackles and ranks 11th in tackles per game at 9.8. Diomande has made 103 total tackles to rank eighth and he ranks sixth with 56 solo stops. He averages 9.4 tackles per game to rank 15th.
Last Meeting vs. Florida Atlantic... Sept. 21, 2024 - UConn 48 FAU 14 - East Hartford, CT
The UConn offense ran for a FBS school record 421 yards as the Huskies posted a 48-14 win over Florida Atlantic at Rentschler Field last season. The Huskies ran wild as Durell Robinson and junior Mel Brown both went for 156 yards to pace the rushing attack. It marked the first time since the 2019 season two Huskies ran for over 100-yards (vs UMass 10/26/2019). The 421 yards was the second most rushing total in program history (437 – vs UMass, 1956). UConn quarterback Nick Evers finished with a career-high 78 yards rushing on 18 carries and two touchdowns. Evers completed nine-of-14 for 88 yards and a touchdown. He led the UConn offense to 542 total yards on 81 plays while picking up 32 first downs. The Huskies also did not punt, a first since a game at Syracuse during the 2004 season. The Huskies ran their way to a 17-0 lead at the half, pounding the ball at the FAU defense to the tune of 31 rushes for 169 yards while holding the football for 20:36. The Huskies ran 42 total plays to 20 for the Owls in the first half. UConn's defense gave up a season-low 250 total yards in the win, just 87 yards through the air. Linebacker Tui Faumuina-Brown led the defense with nine tackles.
Scouting the Owls... The Florida Atlantic Owls come into Saturday at 4-6 overall and at 3-4 in the AAC. The Owls are coming off a 35-24 loss at Tulane last week. Florida Atlantic features the top-ranked passing offense in the country behind quarterback Caden Veltkamp. The Owls are averaging 328.9 yards per game and average 30.6 ppg. Veltkamp has thrown for 2,964 yards and 22 TDs this season. He ranks sixth nationally at 296.4 yards per game. His 28.4 completions per game is tops in the country. Veltkamp spreads the ball around with five receivers registering 25 or more catches on the year. Wide receiver Easton Messer leads the way with 83 catches and ranks second in the nation averaging 8.3 catches per game. He has 847 yards and five scores. On defense, linebacker Leon Hart Jr. is the team's top tackler with 80 stops.
UConn vs. The American... UConn is 5-5 against teams from the American Athletic Conference since becoming an independent starting in the 2021 season. UConn faced the conference three times this season, beating UAB at home, 38-19, and losing in double overtime at Rice, 34-27. The Huskies went 4-0 against their former league last season, beating Florida Atlantic, 48-14, Temple, 29-20, Rice, 17-10, all at home, and UAB, 31-23, on the road. UConn was 1-1 against their former conference in 2023, winning at Rice but falling at home to USF. In 2021, UConn was 0-2, falling at UCF 49-17, and falling at home to nationally ranked Houston, 45-17 when the two schools were still members of the conference. The Huskies were a member of the AAC from 2013 through 2019.
