No. 1 UConn to Face Creighton Wednesday

STORRS, Conn. – The top-ranked UConn women's basketball team (25-0, 14-0 BIG EAST) hosts Creighton (12-12, 8-7) Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Gampel Pavilion. The game will air on peacock and NBC Sports Network and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (FOX Sports 97.9).
UConn joins the BIG EAST Conference in celebrating Black History Month and honoring the Black Fives, who were African American pioneers in basketball. Before tipoff, there will be a performance of Lift Every Voice & Sing.
Before Wednesday's game, the UConn women's basketball team will honor its senior practice players. The practice players help the team prepare to compete at the highest level. UConn's senior practice players include Jason Dean, Owen Zimmerman, Yousif Yousif, Brayden Young, Aryan Patel, Brady Campbell, Isaiah Williams, John Gaffney, Dan Gaffney, Jordan Fortunato and Tyler Doiron.
Graduate student Azzi Fudd was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday. In two wins last week, Fudd led UConn with 21.0 points per game on a .516/.545/.800 shooting split. She also averaged 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game. In February, Fudd is averaging 23.0 points per game while shooting 56.3% from the field and 57.9% from three with 4.3 assists and 3.3 steals per game.
Fudd scored 17 points to lead UConn to an 80-48 win over Butler last Saturday. UConn's starters finished with double-digit points: Fudd, Ashlynn Shade (11), Allie Ziebell (11), Serah Williams (11) and KK Arnold (10). Redshirt sophomore Jana El Alfy grabbed 11 rebounds vs. the Bulldogs.
UConn is 13-0 all-time vs. Creighton. The teams last met on Jan. 11 in Omaha, a 95-54 win for UConn. Sophomore Sarah Strong led the Huskies with 18 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and five steals in the game.
Creighton has won its last four games, most recently an 80-74 decision over Marquette on Sunday. This season, Ava Zediker leads the Bluejays with 13.8 points per game. Head coach Jim Flanery is in his 24th season at Creighton.
