STORRS, Conn.- UConn women's lacrosse junior defender Abby Beran has been named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced in a release Tuesday afternoon.
Beran anchored the UConn defense in a narrow defeat against Drexel in the season opener for both teams. Beran notched a career-high eight ground balls and caused five turnovers, also a career-high.
Beran's eight ground balls were the most in a single game by a Husky since Grace Beshilian secured eight against Florida in 2019. The five caused turnovers were the most by any UConn player since Rylee Brown's performance against Marquette in 2024.
Freshman attacker Hadley Bethke was named to the weekly honor roll after scoring five goals in her collegiate debut. Bethke's five goal performance were the most goals scored by a UConn freshman since Sydney Watson against Vanderbilt in 2018.
The Huskies return to action tomorrow afternoon on the road against Fairfield at 3:00pm on ESPN+.
