Huskies Roll Past Xavier in Dominant Road Victory

CINCINNATI- The UConn women's lacrosse team (5-8, 2-3 BIG EAST) won its second consecutive game on Saturday, defeating Xavier (3-12, 1-4 BIG EAST) by a score of 15-6 at Corcoran Field.
Hadley Bethke led the way for UConn, with four goals and two assists, setting a new career-high with six points. Ten different Huskies scored in the game, orchestrating a balanced scoring attack.
How It Happened:
UConn jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, thanks to a balanced scoring attack. Emma Dacey and Bethke scored within forty-six seconds of each other to put the Huskies ahead 2-0. Ava Palazzolo scored the first goal of her collegiate career, Rayea Davis scored on the free position, and Anna Magennis scored with thirty seconds left in the quarter to give the visitors a 5-0 lead after the first quarter.
Palazzolo scored on the free position to begin the scoring in the second quarter, extending the UConn lead to 6-0 with 5:18 left in the half. After Xavier got on the board for the first time, Bethke responded with her second goal of the half, pushing the Husky lead back to six goals at 7-1. The Musketeers scored on the free position with one minute left in the second, as the Huskies took a 7-2 halftime lead.
Kelsey Neary fired the opening shot home early in the third quarter, and Bethke capped off the hat trick, stretching the UConn advantage to 9-3 with five minutes remaining in the quarter. Bethke scored her fourth of the day, and Eve McGrogan capitalized on the free-position, helping UConn keep its foot on the gas for an 11-3 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Megan O'Brien scored for the Huskies with 13:46 remaining in the fourth. Xavier's Gabby Bouman scored her second of the afternoon, with UConn maintaining a 12-4 lead with 9:56 left in the quarter. Madison Sweeney converted on her first goal of the season for UConn's 13th of the afternoon. O'Brien sealed it for the Huskies, scoring two more goals to stamp an emphatic road win.
Up Next: The Huskies will conclude the season with three straight home games at Morrone Stadium, taking on New Hampshire in a nonconference battle on Tuesday night at 6:00 pm.
