NEW YORK – UConn men's basketball junior Solo Ball has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday (Feb. 16). Ball averaged a team-best 22.0 points in wins at Butler and vs. Georgetown.
It is the seventh career BIG EAST weekly accolade and third this season for Ball, previously making the league's honor roll on Jan. 5 and Jan. 26. He is the third different Husky to earn a Player of the Week nod this season, joining Alex Karaban (Nov. 17) and Silas Demary Jr. (Jan. 12).
Ball opened the week on Wednesday at Butler with a game-high 24 points, shooting 8-of-14 from the field and 6-of-12 from 3-point range. The six made threes marked a new season-high for the junior, one shy of the career best seven he hit twice last season, and the 24 points were two off his career-high – also set against Butler at home on Dec. 16. He followed that up with 20 points, six rebounds and four assists on Saturday against Georgetown in Storrs. Ball knocked down five more triples in that triumph, with the 11 3-pointers marking his most during any two-game span in the southpaw sharpshooter's career.
On the season, Ball is averaging a team-best 14.7 points per game along with 3.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists while hitting 2.1 threes per game and shooting 84.9 percent from the foul line. He and the Huskies return to action on Wednesday night at home vs. Creighton.
