Huskies Top Seton Hall in Game Two

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The UConn softball team defeated the Seton Hall Pirates, 8-6 on Saturday afternoon at Mike Sheppard Field. The Huskies move to 3-2 in BIG EAST play and 8-17 overall this season.
Graduate Jessica Walter made her 9th start of the season in the circle for the Huskies. Walter tossed a scoreless 1st inning, giving up three hits with a strikeout.
UConn jumped out to an early lead in the top of the 1st inning, scoring three runs on a pair of hits. Cat Petteys got the Huskies offense going with a solo home run to center field, her 6th of the season, making it 1-0. Later in the inning, Ava Calciano ripped a double off the center field wall, scoring a pair of runs to extend the lead to 3-0.
Kaitlyn Breslin extended the UConn lead in the 2nd inning, working a bases loaded walk, scoring Kaitlyn Kibling from third base, making it 4-0.
Redshirt-junior Sydnee Koosh came on in relief for Walter in the 2nd inning, making her ninth appearance of the season. Koosh tossed a 1-2-3 frame in the second, adding a strikeout to her outing.
Sophomore Alexandra Bacher came on in relief for Koosh during the 3rd inning, making her 10th appearance this season. Bacher went 2.0 innings giving up a run on three hits.
Seton Hall trimmed into the Huskies lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning, scoring three runs to make it 4-3. The Pirates tied the game at 4-4 in the 4th inning.
UConn responded right away in the top of the 5th inning, loading the bases for Haley Coupal who delivered a bases clearing double, scoring all three runners to put the Huskies back in front, 7-4.
Sophomore Amber Bretton came on in relief for Bacher in the 5th inning, making her 7th appearance of the season. Bretton went 1.2 innings giving up two runs on a pair of hits.
Seton Hall did not go quietly, plating two runs in the 6th inning to make it a one-run game at 7-6.
UConn's starter, Walter, re-entered during the bottom of the 6th inning. Walter went on to close out the game in the circle for the Huskies, securing the final four outs.
UConn once again had an answer for the Pirates in the top of the 7th inning, as Kibling delivered a solo home run to right field, her first of the season, giving the Huskies a two-run cushion, 8-6.
