Huskies Claim Spring Challenge Title

PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – The UConn men's golf team used strong second and third rounds to fight their way up the leaderboard and take home the 2026 Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge team title on Wednesday at the True Blue Golf Club. Three Huskies finished in the top-10 in the field to fuel the comeback win for UConn.
The Huskies finished Monday's first round with a 293 to sit in sixth place in the 16-team field after the first round. UConn came out firing on Tuesday, matching their low team round of the season with a 275 to enter Wednesday's final round in third place. UConn completed the comeback win by posting a 281 to finish at -15 and two strokes better than UAB for the team title. The Huskies led the tournament with 53 birdies as a team
The win gives UConn a spot at the 2027 Augusta Haskins Award Invitational.
UConn was led by sophomore Kai-Jun Huang (Taipei, Taiwan) who turned in his best performance of his Husky career finishing second in the field, just one stroke off the lead. After a 73 on Monday, Huang fired back-to-back season-low rounds, carding a 68 on Tuesday and a 67 on Wednesday for a 208 (-8), his lowest tournament score this year. He did damage on the par 5's over the week, finishing the tournament at seven-under. He also posted 13 birdies on the week.
Junior Bradley Sawka (Ellington, CT) continued his standout season by finishing just two strokes behind Huang in fourth place, his second-consecutive top five finish and the fourth top-10 of his season. Sawka was at or under par in all three rounds, firing a 72 on Monday and matching 69's on Tuesday and Wednesday to finish at 210. He now has a team-best 20 rounds at par or better this season.
Senior Connor Goode (Glastonbury, CT) finished tied for 10th on the leaderboard with a 214 over the tournament (-2). After a 75 on Monday, he stormed back on Tuesday with a 68, tied for the low round of the day. He closed it out with a 71 on Wednesday. Goode and Sawka each had 10 birdies in the tournament.
Freshman Brennan Korn (Scottsdale, AZ) just missed a top 20 finish by tying for 23rd in the field at 217 (+1). Korn, who finished with 15 birdies over the three rounds, the second-highest total of the tournament, posted a score of 217. He shot a 73 on Monday, went two-under for a 70 on Tuesday and closed with a 74 on Wednesday.
Sophomore Caden Blanchette (Manchester, PA) rounded out the UConn line-up with a 236 (77-78-81) to finish tied for 85th. Classmate Matt Costello (Taunton, MA), playing as an individual, finished tied for 44th with a score of 222 (78-71-73).
UConn will next be in action at the Rutherford Invitational at Penn State on April 18-19.
