Huskies Fall to Fairfield

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team was narrowly defeated by the Fairfield Stags, 1-0 on Thursday evening at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. The Huskies fall to 0-3 on the season.
The first half was a defensive battle marked by a series of fouls, with Fairfield and UConn combining for 19 fouls in the opening 45 minutes. UConn's Yotaro Furutani had the best chance of the half, hitting the top of the crossbar on a shot from outside the 18-yard box in the 20th minute. The first half ended scoreless, with each side only totaling one shot a piece.
The game opened up in the second half, with both teams creating more chances, and recording their first shots on goal within the opening 20 minutes of the half.
Cristiano Carlos scored the decisive goal for Fairfield in the 75th minute, giving Fairfield a 1-0 lead.
UConn threw everything they had at the Stags in the closing minutes, pressing for an equalizer. The Huskies generated three shots on goal, earned several corner kicks and created multiple late chances, but Fairfield's defense held firm to preserve their lead through the final whistle.
Kyle Durham recorded two saves during the match, facing a total of eight shots. Rashid Nacif Joffre led the Huskies with three shots and one shot on goal.
