WSOC Embarks on BIG EAST Play

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (2-2-4) opens BIG EAST Conference play with a pair of matches this week. The Huskies head on the road to face St. John's (3-5-1, 0-1 BIG EAST) on Wednesday, September 30 at 7 p.m. then return home on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. against Providence (2-1-7, 0-0-1 BIG EAST) at Morrone Stadium. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Huskies were picked to finish second in the BIG EAST preseason poll while St. John's was slotted ninth and Providence picked sixth.ย
The top four teams in the BIG EAST Conference standings will head to Boyds, Md. for the BIG EAST Championship (Nov. 11-14). UConn has advanced to the BIG EAST Championship in five-straight seasons since returning back to the BIG EAST Conference in 2021.ย
UConn is coming off a 0-0 draw against Vermont last Friday night. The Huskies have had to play without their leading goal scorer Maeve Staunton (three goals) in the past two matches and will be without Staunton for Wednesday's match against the Johnnies.ย
The Huskies did get back 2025 BIG EAST First Team midfielder Anaya Johnson on Friday against Vermont with seven minutes on the pitch.
UConn will look to end a two-match scoreless stretch against a St. John's side that has allowed nine goals in nine games. The St. John's offense does not have a goal scorer with multiple goals, instead has seven players with a goal.
Providence boasts one of the top offensive players in the conference with Jocy Koffi tied for second in the BIG EAST with five goals and leads the conference in shots (36)ย and shots on goal (19).
