Hunter Broadbent enters his fourth year with the program and second serving as Director of Baseball Development / Analytics. In his first season in the position, the Huskies had a campaign to remember, winning a New England-record 50 games and advancing to the NCAA Super Regionals.Â
Broadbent is responsible for implementing technology and data into the program, an area that has seen rampant growth since his arrival in Storrs. The team currently utilizes TrackMan, HitTrax, PitchFX / SMT (highlighted by a state-of-the-art six-camera system inside Elliot Ballpark), Synergy, Edgertronic cameras, TruMedia, GSC Catcher Earpieces, and more in their player development process. He has recruited and hired a team of student managers to assist the Huskies, lending a hand in practice drills, video and data capture, and anything else the coaching staff requires on a daily basis. Additionally, Broadbent utilizes a team of interns from UConn’s Actuarial Science department to develop analytical projects designed to take a deeper dive into player performance and project future outcomes. During the season, he works closely alongside the coaching staff on preparing scouting reports, charting in-game statistics, and helping position fielders, along with hitting fungos and throwing batting practice during pregame preparation and practice sessions. He also assists with Connecticut Baseball School events, analyzing potential recruits and utilizing data in the process.Â
A Management major and Political Science minor, Broadbent is set to graduate from the UConn School of Business in the spring of 2023. He attended Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, MA, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and the recipient of the 2019 Baseball Coaches’ Award in his senior season. He spent the summer of 2022 in the Cape Cod Baseball League, where he was the head Baseball Operations Intern and Advance Scout for the league champion Bourne Braves. Broadbent is from Dedham, Massachusetts and is the son of Maureen and Bill, a four-time World Series Champion as the Video Coordinator for the Boston Red Sox.Â
