James Applegate joined the UConn football staff as a defensive graduate assistant after spending the previous season at NAIA Cincinnati Christian University for the 2018 season. His main responsibility at Cincinnati Christian was coaching the defensive backs while also serving as the social media coordinator and head strength & conditioning coach for the football team. He is a CSCS certified strength coach.
Prior to Cincinnati Christian, Applegate was an undergraduate intern at Miami (OH) University from 2016-18. He assisted the defense, working primarily with safeties (2016-2017) and linebackers (2018).
Applegate was a volunteer assistant football coach at his alma mater, Marysville High School, during the offseasons from 2014-16.
