Sal Alosi is in his second year at UConn, joining the men’s basketball staff in May, 2018, as the director of human performance, responsible for the physical, nutritional and wellness aspects of the men’s basketball program. Alosi’s responsibilities include instituting a 24-hour wellness program, emphasizing the impact of time spent off the court as well as time spent training – giving the student-athletes the tools needed to benefit them long after their time at UConn.
Alosi came to UConn after six years as the strength and conditioning coordinator for the UCLA football program, where he helped develop 30 NFL draft picks, including six first-rounders. Players consistently preformed at a personal-best level at the NFL Combine after working with Alosi.
Alosi, 41, a native of Massapequa, N.Y., also oversaw the UCLA football nutritional program and worked closely with the medical and training staffs to develop programs pertaining to injury prevention and injury rehabilitation.
Alosi also has college basketball experience, having spent the year previous to his time at UCLA at Bryant University (Smithfield, R.I.) as the head strength and conditioning coach, directing all 22 of Bryant’s varsity programs.
Before his stint at Bryant, Alosi spent nine years involved in the NFL, where he was head strength and conditioning coach for the New York Jets (2007-2010) and the Atlanta Falcons (2006), after serving as the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Jets (2002-2005).
He began his professional career at Hofstra University, serving as assistant strength and conditioning coach in 2001. That followed his college playing career as a four-year letter-winner at linebacker for the Hofstra football team, helping the Pride earn back-to-back I-AA quarterfinal playoff appearances in 1999 and 2000 and leading the team in tackles as a senior.
Alosi earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Hofstra in 2001. He and wife Michele are the parents of two children, Sal and Gianna.
