2020-21 (Junior Season): Saw action in 18 games during his junior season...Finished the season with two points on two goals...Had nine blocked shots...Scored his first collegiate goal in a road win at New Hampshire (Jan. 1)...Had a goal and was a career-best +3 in a road win at Northeastern (Feb. 5).
2019-20 (Sophomore Season): Appeared in 28 games during his sophomore season…Registered four points on four assists…Was paired defensively with senior captain Wyatt Newpower in 21 of his 28 games apperances...Finished the season as a +10…Recorded 28 shots on goal and had 16 blocked shots…Had his first career point with an assist in a 3-3 home tie with No. 12 UMass Lowell (Nov. 15)…Had an assist and was a career-best +4 in a 7-4 win at home over New Hampshire (Feb. 1)…Recorded an assist in a 7-4 win over Vermont at home (Dec. 7) and in a 3-2 road win at No. 17 Maine (Feb. 14).
2018-19 (Freshman Season): Appeared in 26 games during his freshman campaign…Generated 15 shots on goal…Blocked a total of 11 shots, fourth most blocked shots among UConn rookies.
Before UConn: Spent the last two seasons playing for the New Jersey Junior Titans of the NAHL…In 2017-18, Wheeler was a team leader wearing the “A” on his jersey while finishing second among team defensemen in scoring with 29 points on four goals and 25 assists…In 2016-17, he led all Titan defensemen with 34 points on eight goals and 26 assists and was a +16 for the season…In eight playoff games, he had a goal and three assists…Off the ice, he was given the 2016-17 NAHL Community Service Award…Attended Lancaster High School.
