Kacie Lewis joined the UConn lacrosse team as an assistant coach for the 2018 season. Lewis, a 2013 UConn graduate, returns to the Storrs campus she called home as a member of the Huskies’ lacrosse program from 2009 through 2013.
"I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to return to my alma mater and work with such a great staff,” commented Lewis. “I truly enjoyed my playing experience at UConn and am looking forward to coming back to Storrs."
Lewis, who works primarily with the defensive unit, helped coach senior Cassis Ekstrom to IWLCA Second Team All-America status in 2018. Ekstrom, a captain, established herself as on of the top players in the country and added IWLCA All-Northeast Region First Team, BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and All-BIG EAST First Team honors to her list of accomplishments.Â
In 2018, the Huskies' defensive unit defense ranked 11th in Division I with 11.12 caused turnovers per game and 12th nationally with 21.24 ground balls per game.
Lewis brings four years of Division I coaching experience with her back to Connecticut. She spent the past three seasons as an assistant at the University of California, Berkeley where she assisted with all facets of the program. Lewis served as the team’s defensive coordinator, responsible for the defensive unit and the goalkeepers. She also held the position of recruiting coordinator for the Golden Bears.
“We are so excited to have Kacie back at UConn,” stated Woods. “Her passion for coaching and her love of UConn will be a great asset to the program. Her defensive coaching experience will help this program compete on a national level.”
A four-year letterwinner for the Huskies, Lewis was a team captain in 2012 and 2013. During her senior season in 2013, she helped guide UConn to a then school record 13 wins and the programs first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.
During her final season, she got her first taste of coaching as well, serving as an intern to head coach Katie Woods. After earning her degree in psychology, Lewis began her full-time coaching career at the College of the Holy Cross in 2013-14. She worked with both the offense and defense, including the goalkeepers, during her one season with the Crusaders.
