Kathleen Halpern is entering her ninth season as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at UCONN. In her nine years, she has worked primarily with the Women’s Volleyball and Swimming & Diving programs providing daily medical care. Halpern also serves as the host athletic trainer for the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament which UCONN hosts on an annual basis. In this role, Halpern coordinates with visiting teams, athletic trainers, and team physicians for necessary administrative and health care needs. In addition, Halpern is the designated athletic trainer on staff who oversees the transition and onboarding of newly hired athletic trainers to the sports medicine department. In 2023, Halpern was Awarded the Preceptor of the Year for her guidance and effort in mentoring students within the Master of Athletic Training program at UCONN.
Prior to UCONN, Halpern earned her Master’s in Athletic Training at Montana State University-Billings in 2017. Through her graduate clinical experience, she worked with the University of Tennessee Football program in the Fall of 2016 and was also awarded the “Outstanding Major Award” for her commitment to excellence and care of the student-athletes.
In 2015, Halpern graduated from Coastal Carolina University with a B.S. in Exercise & Sports Science, where she played four years for the Volleyball program. In her four years as a Division I student-athlete, Halpern won the Big South Conference Tournament, was awarded the Big South Tournament MVP, and served as team captain her senior year.
Halpern has been a member of the NATA as a certified athletic trainer since 2017. She currently resides in Windsor, CT with her husband, son, and their cat Sora.
