Assistant Coach Antonio Wilcox begins his third season at the UConn running backs coach in 2025. UConn head football coach Jim Mora welcomed Wilcox to his coaching staff at the start of the 2023 season after he spent the 2021 and 2022 season at Furman University. Â
In 2024, the UConn rushing attack piled up 2,590 yards, the second highest total in school history. The Huskies averaged 199.2 yards on the ground per game last fall, ranking 21st among the national leaders. Cam Edwards led the attack with 830 yards and 8 touchdowns.
In his first season in Storrs, Wilcox guided a rotating stable of backs in the UConn offense that was led by a pair of Connecticut natives in Edwards and Victor Rosa. Edwards led the team in rushing over nine games as he piled up 618 yards on 123 carries with four scores. He averaged 5.0 yards per carry. Rosa, who was the team’s top-rusher in 2022, put up 550 yards and three scored while averaging 4.9 yards per rush.
Wilcox's presence was felt immediately at Furman as he was key in the development of Dominic Roberto, who had 104 yards on 28 carries in the 2020 season which turned into 715 yards on 96 carries, and 1,194 yards in 2022, while under Wilcox. Â
Prior to his tenure at Furman, Wilcox was on the staff at North Greenville University, working as a graduate assistant with the program's running backs coach helping the group double their rushing production from 2018-2019 before being promoted to wide receivers coach.Â
Wilcox began his coaching career at Furman in 2018, serving as a quality control offensive assistant playing a key role in Furman's run to the SoCon championship that season.
A native of Fitzgerald, Ga., he lettered all four years at Furman and paced Furman in rushing as a sophomore, junior, and senior, finishing with career totals of 1,777 yards and 21 touchdowns.  In 2017, he rushed for 814 yards and 14 touchdowns in helping key Furman's drive to the NCAA FCS playoffs.  Included in that campaign was a career high 21-carry, 202-yard rushing performance in a 28-6 road triumph over Western Carolina.
Wilcox earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Furman in the spring of 2018 and secured his MBA from North Greenville in 2020.Â
