Men's Ice Hockey Falls To Merrimack, 6-2

Merrimack's Jayson Philbin netted the first goal of the game seven minutes into the first period followed by a John Pyliotis goal six minutes later giving the Warriors the 2-0 lead.
The Warriors came out just as strong in the second stanza scoring a shorthanded goal just two minutes in on a shot Anthony Aquino. At the 11:17 mark, Nick Cammarata nailed a power play goal raising the score to 4-0. UConn got on the board a little over a minute later when Matt Herhal (Pottstown, NY) found the back of the net on assists from Bret Bostock (Phoenix, AZ) and Michael Goldkind (Silver Spring, MD).
The third period began just as the first two stanzas with Merrimack netting the first two goals. Alex Sikatchev and Ron Mongeau record the goals for the Warriors within 15 seconds of each other. Connecticut's second goal came from D.J. Miller (Mount Lebanon, PA) at the 11:10 mark, his first goal as a Husky. Ciro Longobardi (Wallingford, CT) and Travis Wood (Seattle, WA) assisted on Miller's tally.
Connecticut's John Chain (Ardmore, PA) started in net for the Huskies making 23 saves, with Artie Imbriano (Stoneham, MA) replacing Chain in the third period making 11 saves. Merrimack's Tom Welby and Jason Wolfe combined for 21 saves in net. The Warriors oushot the Huskies, 40-23 on the evening.
Connecticut will take to the ice again in North Andover, MA in rematch with Merrimack College on Oct. 21 at 7:00 p.m.
