STORRS, CT - The Connecticut Polar Bears dominated play in its 13-1 win over the University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team in exhibition play on Oct. 21 at the UConn Ice Arena.
The Polar Bears jumped out to an early six-goal lead after the first period of play, and then recorded two more in the second and five in third stanza. Kerry Leonard led the Polar Bears with four goals and two assists, while Whitney Brown, Caitlin Burns and Emily Grannon each netted two apiece.
UConn's Natalie Phelps (Willington, CT) scored UConn's only tally in the midway through the second period on assists from Laura Scarpa (Niantic, CT) and Hollie Stephens (East Haven, CT).
Diana Cohen (South Salem, NY) and Stephanie Policastro (Stamford, CT) combined for 36 saves in net, while the Polar Bear's Melissa Andreo recorded 13 saves.
Connecticut will host the Connecticut Crusaders in exhibition play on Sunday afternoon at the UConn Ice Arena at 2:00 p.m.
