Already claiming the conference regular season title and receiving the top-seed in the BIG EAST Tournament, the Huskies still went all out against the visiting Orangewomen on Senior Day.
UConns first goal of the match came from senior All-American Laura Klein (Fairfield, N.J.) courtesy of junior Kelly Cochrane (Scarsdale, N.Y.) on a follow up tip off a penalty corner. Freshman Amy Marland (Mt. Warrigal, Australia) scored thereafter at the 11:17 mark from another Cochrane pass, which would be the last goal of the game.
Junior goalkeeper Alana Linick (Chelsea, Mass.) tallied 10 saves in goal, while Audrey Latsko of Syracuse had eight. This was the Huskies and Linicks fourth shutout game of the season.
Seniors Amy Herz, Abby Keefe (Rhinebeck, N.Y.), Linick, Chrissy Needham (Killingworth, Conn.), Kelly Rosborough (Uxbridge, Mass.) Sara Sartori (Dover Plains, N.Y.) and Katie Stephens (Hershey, Pa.) were given recognition for their careers at UConn.
Together, the senior class of 2001 accomplished four BIG EAST Conference regular season crowns, two BIG EAST Tournament Championships, one trip to the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals and two appearances in the NCAA Final Four.
Connecticut (14-5 overall, 5-0 BIG EAST) ends the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 29, as it hosts No. 6 Princeton at 1 p.m.
