Ron D'Angelo (Massapequa, NY) opened the scoring for UConn with just five minutes gone in the first period on a breakaway from the Army defense. Just over four minutes later during a Husky power play opportunity, Matt Herhal (Pottstown, PA) deflected in a shot taken by Mike Boylan (Doylestown, PA) from the point for Connecticut's second tally. Michael Goldkind (Silver Spring, MD) also received an assist on the goal.
Army had a two goal second period to bring the game back into reach for the Black Knights. Garrett Broughman scored with 1:45 into the stanza with assists from Nic Serre and Tim Fisher. Army's Joe Carpenter then capitalized on 3-on-4 situation in the Black Knights favor tying the game at two apiece at the 8:21 mark on a shot from the offensive blue line. UConn took the lead for the remainder of the game on Kamienski's unassisted tally with seven minutes remaining in the period. The two teams went scoreless in the third period.
UConn's Artie Imbriano (Stoneham, MA) stopped 22 Army shots, while Scott Hamilton made 17 saves in goal for the Black Knights.
