SCHENECTADY, NY - Union College used two power play goals en route to a 5-1 victory over the University of Connecticut mens ice hockey team at Achilles Rink in Schenectady, NY on Saturday evening. The loss concludes UConns non-conference schedule for the season, dropping its record to 8-12-2 overall, while Union improves to 7-10-3 on the season.
The two teams played scoreless through most of the first period until Unions Kris Goodjohn netted a power play tally at the 17:34 mark.
Jason Ralph scored the game-winner at 4:01 of the second period on another power play, followed his second goal of the evening at the 10:14 mark. Jordy Federko raised the score to 4-0 with just over three minutes remaining in the stanza.
UConns only goal came eight seconds into the third period on a shot by Kurt Kamienski (Pittsfield, MA). He was assisted by Eric Goclowski (Hamden, CT). Jason Kean scored the Flying Dutchmens last goal at the 5:15 mark.
John Chain (Ardmore, PA) suffered the loss in net stopping 25 Union shots, while Brandon Snee recorded 17 saves. Union outshot UConn, 30-18.
UConn will travel to Waltham, MA to take on MAAC opponent Bentley College on Tuesday, January 23 at 7:30 p.m.
