UConn Defeats Yale, 3-1

NEW HAVEN, CT (November 24) – The University of Connecticut women’s ice hockey team used three third period goals to defeat ECAC Northern rival Yale University, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at Ingalls Ice Arena in New Haven, CT. With the win UConn improved its overall record to 5-4-1, while Yale fell to 3-2-1.
Connecticut gained the 3-0 lead in less than a ten-minute time span in the third period. Laura Stosky (Edmonton, Alberta) opened the scoring with an unassisted tally at the 9:44 mark. Less than 20-seconds later, Sara Mahoney (Lynn, MA) notched the game-winner on an assist from Jacquelyn McGuire (Glenview, IL). The insurance goal came at the 17:52 mark giving the Huskies the 3-0 lead on a shot from Kim Berry (Haverhill, MA). Shannon Connolly (Baldwinsville, NY) and Mahoney assisted on the goal.
Shannon Murphy (Mapleville, RI) improved her record to 4-4-1 notching today’s win stopping 30 shots on goal. Yale’s Katie Hirte recorded 36 saves in the loss. UConn outshot the Eli’s 39-31.
Connecticut will travel to ECAC Northern rival Princeton University on Sunday, November 25 at the Hobey Baker Memorial Ice Rink in Princeton, NJ. Game time is set for 2:00 pm.
