Huskies Fall 3-2 in Overtime to Princeton

PRINCETON, NJ (November 25) – The University of Connecticut women’s ice hockey team dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to ECAC Northern rival Princeton University on Sunday afternoon at the Hobey Baker Memorial Rink in Princeton, NJ.
The two teams played scoreless through the first period of play, with Princeton taking the 10-5 advantage in shots. Connecticut’s Tiffany Owens (Belleville, MI) scored the opening goal at the 9:13 mark of the second period on assists from Shannon Connolly (Baldwinsville, NY) and Caitlin Salazar-Reid (London, Ontario). Princeton’s Gretchen Anderson tied the score just over five-minutes later. Kim Berry (Haverhill, MA) then gave the Huskies the 2-1 lead before heading into the third period, scoring her tally with 2:28 remaining in the stanza.
Princeton tied the score again at the 3:40 mark of the third stanza sending the game into overtime. The winning tally, a power play goal, came 2:31 into the extra period on a shot from Susan Hobson.
Shannon Murphy (Mapleville, RI) suffered the loss in net for the Huskies recording 23 saves, while Princeton’s Megan VanBeusekorn stopped 21 shots on goal.
Connecticut will play a weekend series against nationally-ranked New Hampshire on December 1 & 2 in Durham, NH. Both game will begin at 2:00 pm.
