Huskies Drop Season Opener to Northeastern

BOSTON, MA (October 11) – The University of Connecticut men’s ice hockey team dropped its first regular game of the season to Hockey East opponent Northeastern University, 10-1, at the Matthews Arena on Friday evening in Boston, MA.
Northeastern notched four goals in both the first and second periods, then topped off the scoring with two in the third stanza. Northeastern’s Jason Guerriero led the scoring with two goals and two assists, and Jaron Herriman and Trevor Reschny each added a goal and three assists. Of the ten goals scored by Northeastern, only one goal was scored the power play.
UConn’s lone goal, a power play tally, came at the 14:33 mark of the third period by Ron D’Angelo (Massapequa, NY). He was assisted by Kurt Kamienski (Pittsfield, MA).
Connecticut’s Artie Imbriano (Stoneham, MA) suffered the loss in net giving up the first four goals of the game while recording 14 saves. Paul Morrissey (Winchester, MA) tended net for the second and third periods for 16 saves. NE out shot UConn, 40-23. The last time Connecticut gave up tens goals in a game was against UMass-Lowell, 13-1, during the 1999-2000 season.
Connecticut will open its home and MAAC conference schedule on Sunday, October 13 at 5:00 pm at the UConn Ice Arena.
