Connecticut Falls to No. 7 Long Beach State

STORRS, CT (Oct. 19) - The University of Connecticut women’s volleyball team fell to No. 7 Long Beach State, 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at the UConn Autumn Classic in Harry A. Gampel Pavilion. The loss drops UConn to 8-12 overall and moves Long Beach State to 17-1. The win for the 49ers was also the 500th career victory for head coach Brian Gimmillaro in 18 seasons at Long Beach State.
Game one and two saw UConn and Long Beach State battle back and forth, but late pushes by the 49ers was the difference. Long Beach won game one 30-21 and game two 30-28.
Game three saw Long Beach put the Huskies away as they jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead that they never relinquished in a 30-17 victory.
UConn was led by senior Christine Lambert (Lancaster, CA) with 10 kills and three blocks and two service aces. Junior Julie Erbez (Stockton, CA) set the game with 30 assists and eight digs, while Jamie Hadenfeldt (Benicia, CA) led the Huskies defensively with 12 digs.
Long Beach State was led by Lindsay Phillips and Kessie Doering with 10 kills a piece and Brittany Hochevar who just missed a triple double with nine kills, 32 assists and 11 digs.
In the first match of the day No. 7 Long Beach State defeated Fairfield, 3-0.
Connecticut returns to BIG EAST action on Fri., Oct. 25, at 7:00 pm, when they play host to Villanova.
