Lowie Named to the BIG EAST Preseason Team

PROVIDENCE, RI (February 21) – Pam Lowie (Cortland, NY) of the University of Connecticut women’s lacrosse team was named to the 2002 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team as announced by the league office on Thursday morning. The Huskies were also picked to finish sixth in the 2002 BIG EAST women’s lacrosse preseason poll.
Lowie, a senior, had a team-leading 39 goals for 43 points, plus added four assists in 2001. She appeared in 14 games, making 13 starts. Lowie also collected 26 ground balls and had 26 draw controls.
Last season, the Huskies completed its inaugural year in the BIG EAST with a record of 3-13 overall, 1-6 in the conference. In the 2002 preseason poll, UConn (10) finished ahead of seventh place Boston College (9) by one point.
Georgetown was picked to claim the 2002 BIG EAST women’s lacrosse title receiving all six possible first-place votes. Picked to finish second was Syracuse, followed by Notre Dame, Rutgers and Virginia Tech. Connecticut and Boston College rounded out the group.
Georgetown’s Erin Elbe was selected as the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while Syracuse’s Carrie Soults was picked as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
Connecticut will open its regular season home schedule on March 6 against Quinnipiac at 3:00 pm in Storrs.
