UConn Wins Fourth-Straight With 3-1 Defeat of BU

STORRS, CT – Lauren Henderson (Avondale Harare, Zimbabwe) and Kelly Stolle (Warren, CT) each had a goal and an assist as the University of Connecticut field hockey team downed Boston University 3-1 Wednesday afternoon at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs. With the victory, the 11th ranked Huskies improve to 12-4, while BU slips to 8-7. Henderson’s goal was her 53rd career tally, which puts her alone in second place on UConn’s all-time goals scored list.
The Terriers came out aggressively to start the game, out shooting the Huskies in the early going. The Huskies needed two defensive saves from their outstanding backline to preserve the shutout, one by senior back Laura Thibodeau (Southbury, CT) and the other by midfielder Becky Helwig (Madison, NJ). However, the Husky offense woke up and took seven of the game’s last eight shots in the first session. UConn got on the board with 1:04 remaining in the half. Stolle fed a centering pass from the far side to a cutting Henderson. Henderson controlled the pass and fired it into the lower left corner, giving the Huskies a 1-0 advantage they would take into the locker room.
BU would not lie down though, as Natalie DiSabato knotted it up at 40:17. Dalinda Banuelos fired a shot during a penalty corner that was stuffed by UConn keeper Maureen Butler (Red Hook, NY), but the rebound was not controlled by the Husky defense and DiSabato was able to collect it and punch it in. The Huskies answered less than ten minutes later when Henderson dribbled through the BU defense and blasted a shot that was deflected into the goal by Stolle for the game-winner. Helwig iced the game at 65:28 after she controlled a rebound off a corner, and flipped it over the goalie, making the score 3-1.
The Husky defense was suffocating once again, allowing only five shots on the afternoon. Butler made one save for UConn. Erin Prediger put in a solid effort in net for the Terriers, making 14 saves.
UConn is back in action Sunday, October 26 when they travel to Syracuse to take-on the Orange women at 1:00 p.m.
