Huskies Selected to Participate in 2003 NCAA Tournament

STORRS, CT (November 11) -- The University of Connecticut field hockey team has been selected to participate in the 2003 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship for the seventh time in eight years. The NCAA has also selected UConn to host the first two rounds of the Tournament, as the Huskies will welcome Boston College, Wake Forest and Northeastern to Storrs. UConn will square off with Northeastern on Saturday, November 15 at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs. UConn is scheduled to play NU at 2:00 p.m. and that match-up will be preceded by the Wake Forest vs. Boston College contest at 11:00 a.m.
Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for youths, students, and seniors. Tickets can be purchased at the gate, which will open 9:30 a.m. on Saturday and will remain open through the conclusion of Saturday's second game. The gate will open at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday as well.
UConn defeated Northeastern 2-0 in the regular season, but lost to NU in the first round of last year’s NCAA Tournament. Northeastern, the America East Conference Champion, comes into the NCAA’s ranked No. 9 in the 2003 STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll. UConn finished the regular season with a record of 16-5 and is ranked 12th nationally.
Boston College will play the overall #1 seed, Wake Forest on Saturday. The Demon Deacons ended the season with a 18-1 mark and won the ACC Tournament. Boston College comes into this weekend with a 15-6 record, after defeating UConn in the BIG EAST Tournament championship game. BC is ranked No. 13 by the NFHCA.
