Huskies Add Four Recruits for 2003-04 Season

STORRS, CT (May 14) – The University of Connecticut women’s ice hockey program and fourth year head coach Heather Linstad announced four recruits have committed to attend Connecticut for the upcoming 2003-04 season. Scheduled to enroll in the fall of 2003 are Leslie Hurlburt (Unionville, Ontario), Alicia Ramolla (Minesing, Ontario), Katherine VanDeveire (Brandon, Manitoba) and Natalie Vibert (Thunder Bay, Ontario).
A left wing forward, Leslie Hurlburt is from Unionville, Ontario. Hurlburt attended Markham District High School where she was named to the First Team All-League for her hockey achievements. She also plays for the Aurora Panthers, part of the Newmarket Girls Hockey Association. During the 2002-03 season with the Panthers, Hurlburt played in 76 games, recording 22 goals and 34 assists for 56 total points.
Alicia Ramolla is a left shot defenseman from Minesing, Ontario. Playing primarily for the Aurora Panthers, she played in 61 games, notching 11 goals and 21 assist for 32 total points from the blueline during the 2002-03 season. Ramolla played for the Under-18 Team Ontario in the 2003 Canadian Winter Games. Team Ontario, which went undefeated through the games, captured the Gold Medal in a 4-2 win over Team Quebec.
A Brandon, Manitoba native, Katherine VanDeveire will be a center forward for the Huskies. VanDeveire played for the Brandon Wheat Kings Club Team during her high school career. She also participated in the 2003 Canadian Winter Games, playing for the Under-18 Team Manitoba.
A right shooting defenseman, Natalie Vibert hails from Thunder Bay, Ontario. Also a member of the Aurora Panthers, Vibert was named to the North Metro Girls Hockey League 2003 All-Star Team. Having played in 74 games for Aurora, Vibert scored 23 goals and assisted on 33 from the blueline, for 56 total points.
“We are very excited about the incoming freshmen class, and what they will add to the UConn hockey program in the next four years,” said Linstad. “The incoming four will add new depth to our lineup, and will help to create a more positive and stronger environment as we continue to build the Connecticut hockey program on the national level.”
