Huskies Open Indoor Season At Alden Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (December 3, 2005) - The University of Connecticut women's track and field team opened its indoor track season at the Alden Invitational on Saturday with several individual successes. Freshman Jessica Foreman (Wayland, Mass.) captured the first top finish of her career in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.10. Her time ties her for fifth in the program's record book for the 55. Senior Leah Williams (Brookfield, Conn.) also made the record books with a personal best finish in the pole vault to rank her second in program history with a vault of 3.50m.
Several more freshman has successful opening days as well. In the 55, Alyssa Evering (Bel Air, Md.) took third place, Kara Budd (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) took fourth and Jessica White (Middletown, Mass.) placed fifth to round out the top-five. Mandela Graves-Fulgham (Shutesbury, Mass.) took second place in the 200 and the 400. Foreman also took third in the 200, followed by Evering in fourth and Budd in fifth. Graves-Fulgham also took second in the 400. Pamela Karkut (Shelton, Conn.) placed eighth in the mile run for the Huskies.
Senior Erin Sales (Windsor Locks, Conn.) finished second in the 1,000 with a time of 3:08.71. Marlene Priest (So. Dennis, Mass.) placed second in the 500, followed by freshman Larease Royes (New Britain, Conn.) in ninth and junior Rachel Smith (Reading, Mass.) in 10th.
In the field events, Cassie Buckwalter (New Wilmington, Pa.) won the weight throw with a distance of 16.88m and freshman Amanda Martin (Rowley, Mass.), throwing shot put for the first time, won the event with a throw of 13.60m.
The Huskies are back in action again on Jan. 14, 2006 at the Army Invitational.
