STORRS, CT (Feb. 7) – University of Connecticut senior attack Tracy Mullaney (Cockeysville, Md.) was unanimously named preseason All-BIG EAST in lacrosse on Monday in a vote of the league’s coaches. Mullaney is one of five unanimous selections on the 13-member team. She was the lone Husky chosen.
Mullaney led the Huskies in 2004 with 41 goals and 13 assists for 54 points while starting all 17 games. She was one of just five Huskies to start every contest. Mullaney’s 54 points in 2004 tied the school record set in 2000 by Pamela Lowie, while her 41 goals last spring was the third best seasonal total in Husky history. Mullaney is the leading returning scorer in the BIG EAST Conference for the 2005 season as her 54 points edges out the 52 tallied in 2004 by Georgetown’s Sarah Oliphant, also a unanimous preseason All-BIG EAST selection. Mullaney enters her senior year third in UConn history with 137 points, placing just 36 shy of tying Lowie’s school record sum of 173 set from 1999 from 2002.
Georgetown, the 2004 conference champion, was picked to finish first in the league this spring as well. The Huskies were tabbed for fifth in a vote of the BIG EAST coaches.
UConn will open its 2005 season on March 4 at Stanford.
