Women's Tennis Defeated by Rutgers, 5-2

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 29, 2005) - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team was defeated by Rutgers by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon in Piscataway, N.J. The Huskies drop to 0-3 against BIG EAST opponents and 2-8 overall this spring.
Senior Jen LoRusso (Shoreham, N.Y.) and sophomore Liz Dibbs (Allentown, Pa.) picked up the UConn points in singles play. LoRusso topped Anela Dujsic 7-6 (4), 6-2 at No. 2. Dibbs, at No. 5, then defeated Ketevan Shmakova, 6-4, 7-5 to register UConn's second point in the duel.
The senior duo of Whitney Simcik (Reading, Pa.) and Barbara Schumsky (West Hartford, Conn.) was the lone UConn team to win a doubles match. The two defeated Rutgers' Katrina Elder-Bush and Shmakova, 8-6.
