Rudy Gay Earns First Team All-American Recognition

Kansas City, Mo. (March 13, 2006)-- University of Connecticut sophomore Rudy Gay (Baltimore, Md.) was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division I First Team All-American squad, it was announced by the organization Monday.
Gay was joined on the First Team All-America squad by J.J. Redick and Shelden Williams of Duke University, Adam Morrison of Gonzaga University and Randy Foye of Villanova University.
Gay leads the Huskies in scoring at 15.3 points per game and also averages 6.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.8 steals per game and 1.7 blocks per game. He is the only player in the country averaging 15 points, six rebounds, two assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per contest.
He was a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team and was also a Second Team All-American pick by ESPN.com and by the United States Basketball Writers Association (U.S.B.W.A.). He was named First Team All-District by the NABC and the USBWA.
Gay becomes the sixth Husky under Jim Calhoun to achieve All-American status. He joins Donyell Marshall (1993-94), Ray Allen (1994-95, 1995-96), Richard Hamilton (1997-98, 1998-99), Caron Butler (2001-02) and Emeka Okafor (2002-03, 2003-04) as UConn All-Americans under Coach Calhoun.
