WAKEFIELD, Mass. (Oct. 22, 2007) - Sophomore Dominique Thibault (L'Orignal, Ont.) has been selected as the Hockey East Association's TPS Player of the Week for the second straight week, while junior goaltender Brittany Wilson (Nepean, Ont.) has been chosen as the Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week, as announced Monday by the conference office.
In UConn's first road trip of the season, the Huskies traveled to Hamilton, N.Y. and defeated the No. 3 St. Lawrence Saints 3-2. Thibault scored the first goal of the afternoon for the Huskies to tie the game at one. She also added an assist in the upset over the Saints as teammate Samantha Reid (Innisfil, Ont.) scored the winning goal with less than three minutes remaining in the game.
Thibault recorded her fifth goal in six games played in the 2-1 win over Colgate on Saturday evening in Canton, N.Y. She now has 17 career assists and 36 career points. With just three more points, Thibault will move into 10th place amongst UConn's All-Time points leaders as she will tie current teammate Kristen Russell (Dauphin, Man.) with 39 career points.
With Thibault's goal against Colgate, she moves up the ladder in UConn's record books, as she moves into the 10th place standing, joining UConn's All-Time scoring leaders with 19 career goals.
Thibault has made a huge impact on the Husky offense so far this season, while she has recorded at least one point in all five of UConn's wins this season and leads her team with 11 points (5g, 6a). Her 11 points leads the Hockey East, while she
averages 1.83 points per game, which ranks fifth among Division I players.
Wilson, a Hockey East First Team selection last season, recorded her third win of the season as the Huskies upset St. Lawrence in non-conference action. Wilson, who holds the UConn records in wins and saves in a single season, recorded 26 saves in the Huskies' fourth win of the year. She picked up 11 of her 26 saves in the third period alone while giving up two goals in her 60 minutes played.
With the win, she improves her record to 3-1-0, while she currently leads the Huskies with 104 saves in 237:47 minutes played.
Sophomore Jennie Bellonio (Guilford, Conn.) picked up Hockey East Weekly Honor roll after her second win of the season in just her third career start in goal. Bellonio recorded 28 saves, including 17 stops in the second period, in the Huskies’ 2-1 win over Colgate.
