STORRS, Conn. (October 27, 2007) - The University of Connecticut men's hockey team fell to Army 4-1 in an Atlantic Hockey Association game Saturday night. UConn is now 1-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the AHA. Army is 1-3-0 and 1-0-0.
A physical first period saw Army outshoot the Huskies 14-8, but neither team was able to get on the board. Sophomore goalie Beau Erickson (Hinton, Iowa) was sharp early, making 14 saves in the period.
The Black Knights got on the board five minutes into second period when Bryce Hollweg got a shot past Erickson. They added another one about three minutes later shorthanded when the Huskies turned the puck over and Cody Omilusik was able to score on a breakaway.
The third period started with a another quick goal for Army when Luke Flicek took a pass from Hollweg, beat his defender and scored on the net. UConn got on the board on a nice play at the 6:33 mark. A long pass from the defensive zone by Matt Pedemonti (Enfield, Conn.) found Matt Turner (Colorado Springs, Colo.) just outside the offensive zone. His hard shot from the right circle was save by the goaltender, but the rebound came right back to Michael Coppola (Old Brookville, N.Y.) who scored his second of the season. The Black Knights answered with a goal by Owen Meyer 18 seconds later to complete the scoring for the night.
For the game Army out shot the Huskies 36-16. Andrew Olson (Alexandria, Minn.) led the team with five shots. Erickson had another strong night in goal making 32 saves.
