STORRS, Conn. (February 20, 2007) - For the fourth consecutive year, the University of Connecticut women's cross country team has garnered the distinction as an NCAA All-Academic Team while senior Jillian Sullivan (Bristol, Conn.) has been named a member of its Individual All-Academic Team.
Sullivan already earned All-America honors at the NCAA Championships by finishing as one of the Top 20 runners in the nation and became UConn's first cross country All-American.
The team qualifications require a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average during the fall 2006 term. For an individual to qualify, the athlete must meet a minimum of a 3.25 cumulative gpa.
"The recent news of having our cross country team named an All-Academic Team speaks volumes to the efforts of our young ladies," head coach Bill Morgan said. "With a supporting cast of tremendous professors, an outstanding team advisor in John Miceli and the significant mentoring of distance coach Kim McGreevy, the partnering for success is apparant."
"Individually, to have captain Jillian Sullivan as an individual member is a true testament to her fortitude in achieving recognition in the highest form for a student-athlete: the Academic All-American! Not to go unnoticed is her role in being on all four All-Academic Teams during her tenure at UConn."
UConn is coming off the best finish in 20 years at the Indoor BIG EAST Championships, placing 3rd out of 16 teams.
"Along with Coach McGreevy and Coach Terrelonge, there is a great sense of pride in being associated with such a remarkable group," Morgan said.
