STORRS, Conn.-- UConn women's cross country kicks off postseason competition this week, competing in the 2025 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships on Friday, October 31st. The championships will be held at Mahoney State Park in Ashland, Nebraska. The women's race will start at 12:50 pm Eastern Time (11:50 am Central)
The Huskies have shown significant individual and team progress throughout the season, fueled by their veterans. UConn finished fifth at the Princeton Fall Classic on October 17th. Senior captain Chloe Trudel elevated the Huskies with a personal-best time of 20:22.8, taking 11th place in a competitive field. Junior Malin Rahm also set a personal best in Princeton, crossing the finish line at 20:50.1, finishing 30th. Graduate student Sarah Trainor made her season debut at Princeton, completing the 6k race at 21:21.2.
UConn has also been powered by its first-year runners this season. Sascha Letica set a personal best in Princeton with a time of 20:25.8, taking 16th place. Brooke Strauss took home BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week honors on September 23rd. Strauss starred in her collegiate debut, winning the Ted Owen Invite with a 5k time of 17:12.40 to lead UConn to a team victory. The Huskies also won the University of Hartford Invite to open the season on September 6th.Â
UConn will race against multiple nationally ranked teams. Georgetown comes into the championships ranked 10th, and Villanova is ranked 14th. Providence is ranked just outside the rankings, coming in at 28th.
Last season, UConn finished third at the BIG EAST Conference Championships behind the five time-defending champion Hoyas and Providence. Three Huskies took all-conference honors. Chloe Thomas (1st) and Jenna Zydanowicz (9th) made the first team and Caroline Towle (11th) made the second team.
