ROCHESTER, N.Y. - For the second night in a row, a member of the RIT men's hockey team recorded a hattrick against the University of Connecticut. This time, Dan Ringwald earned the natural hattrick for the Tigers giving them a four-goal advantage after the end of the first period of play and their second straight victory in front of 1,457 at Ritter Arena in the weekend series finale.
The Huskies were shut out for the first time this season as they drop to 0-6-0 on the year and 0-3-0 in the Atlantic Hockey Association. RIT earned their second victory of the season improving to 2-5-0, 2-2-0 in league play.
Bryan Potts got the Tigers on the board first early into the game when he scored at 6:16. He was aided by Stevan Matic and Brent Alexin, who recorded three assists on the night for the Tigers.
Just a minute later, Ringwald began his quest for the natural hattrick when he dumped in a goal at 7:16. Ringwald's next to goals came in succession and they both were of the power play kind as he got his second goal of the game at 8:15 and his third at 15:26 to help the Tigers to a four-goal lead before the end of the first period.
In the second RIT only managed to get one on the board as Chris Tanev notched the Tigers' fifth goal of the night just before the end of the period.
The third period brought a couple of more goals for the Tigers as Tyler Mazzi recorded his first goal and second point of the night and Chris Taniv tallied his second goal of the game for RIT.
Jeff Larson (Ballwin, Mo.) finished the game with 31 saves for the Huskies as Jared Demichel and Shane Madolora shared the time between the pipes for the Tigers finishing with a combined 27 saves.
The Huskies are back in action next weekend as they host their home opener against American International at the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum on Friday, November 6 at 7:05 p.m.
