Huskies To Open Home Season At Freitas Friday

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut men's hockey team heads into the month of November determined to put a win on the board. They enter the new month at home for the first time during the 2009-10 season when they host American International on Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7 in Atlantic Hockey action beginning at 7:05 p.m.
Prior to the Friday night game, the Huskies will be holding a puck-drop ceremony honoring the 50th year of UConn hockey.
AIC enters the game tonight at 1-3-1 on the season and 1-1-1 in AHA action after defeating Holy Cross in game one last weekend and ending with a tie in game two to come away with three points from the weekend.
The Huskies are led by freshman Sean Ambrosie who has four points on the season on three goals and one assist and Justin Hernandez who has recorded one goal and two assists on the year. Last weekend, junior assistant captain Andrew Olson paced the team earning his first goal of the year in game one of the weekend series at RIT.

SCOUTING AIC: The Yellow Jackets are off to a 1-3-1 start on the season earning their first victory of the season last weekend against Holy Cross.
They began the season with three-straight losses to Union, Rensselaer and Sacred Heart before going undefeated last weekend against the Crusaders.
SERIES PAST: The series with American International is one of the longest running series' in the 50-year history of the UConn hockey program. The two teams have met a total of 86 times in the past with the Huskies holding the 41-37-8 lead in the series.
UConn has won the last four games between the two teams including two victories last season on the road.
UCONN IN ATLANTIC HOCKEY HOME OPENERS: UConn has been a part of the Atlantic Hockey Association since the 2003-04 season and is 3-3 in AHA home openers during that time.
The Huskies have earned two of those three victories over AIC in the 2003-04 season when they defeated the Yellow Jackets 7-4 and in the 2007-08 season, 4-2.
UConn's other victory came last season against Army, when the Huskies swept the Black Knights for the first time in the history of the program.
UConn's three AHA home opening losses came against Mercyhurst (6-3 in 2004-05), Holy Cross (4-1 in 2005-06) and Army (5-4 in 2006-07).
HUSKIES LAST TIME OUT: The Huskies were 0-2-0 on the weekend dropping two conference games to RIT on the road. The Huskies battled to a 6-2 loss in the first game of the series falling 7-0 in game 2. Corey Jendras and Andrew Olson recorded the only goals of the weekend for the Huskies as Jim Gallagher, Alex Gerke and Jason Krispel all earned assists.
Jeff Larson played all 120 minutes in goal for the Huskies finishing the weekend with a 6.50 GAA and a .831 save percentage.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: After his performance against Ferris State, University of Connecticut freshman Sean Ambrosie (Moorhead, Minn.) earned AHA Rookie of the week honors.
Ambrosie recorded two points on the weekend tallying his first collegiate goal and assist in the series against Ferris State. Ambrosie earned his first assist of the season on Daniel Naurato's goal in game one that gave the Huskies a 1-0 advantage over their CCHA opponent. He notched the first goal of his career in game two. His goal was the only one of the game for the Huskies and came in the second period.
