STORRS, Conn. - Rebecca Murray (Carmel, Ind.) and Jordan Kirk (Plano, Texas) led the University of Connecticut volleyball team this afternoon against No. 22 Cincinnati, each recording double-digit kills, as the Huskies battled the Bearcats in a 3-0 loss.
Set scores were 23-25, 22-25, 20-25.
The Huskies had a strong first set, taking a four point lead twice at 8-4 and 21-17 off of Kirk and Murray kills, before the Bearcats were able to come back and close the set on a six point run. Although the Huskies never had a lead during set two, UConn battled back and forth with the Bearcats keeping the score within six points throughout the entire set. After trailing 22-16, the Huskies rattled off four straight points to come within two points of the Bearcats (22-20) off of a kill and a pair of service aces by Kirk, but it would not be enough as UC was able to take set two, 25-22.
UConn continued to battle during the final set pressuring the Bearcats until the very end, becoming the first team to post at least 20 points in each set against Cincinnati in their last four matches.
The Huskies held their only lead during the middle of set three with points from Murray, Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Morgan Freeman (Virginia Beach, Va.). UC was able to rally back and get their offense rolling, posting six kills to end the set and take the match.
Murray led the UConn offense with 16 kills and three service aces, marking the 13th contest that she has recorded an ace this season.
