Storrs, Conn. - It was announced today by the Atlantic Hockey Association that freshman forward Jordan Sims (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and sophomore goaltender Garrett Bartus (St. Charles, Ill.) have been named to the Atlantic Hockey Honor Roll. Sims put home two goals, including a short-handed goal and the game-tying goal, and Bartus denied 38 shots to lead UConn to a 3-3 tie at No. 13/16 Union on Thursday, October 28. UConn stands at 1-1-2 (1-0-0 AHA).
In the Connecticut's fourth-straight game on the road, the Huskies came back from down, 3-0, in the second period to earn a 3-3 tie in Schenectady, N.Y. against Union. Sims scored a short-handed goal at 9:18 of the second period to make it 3-1. After another UConn goal by sophomore Sean Ambrosie (Moorhead, Minn.), Sims buried his second of the game at 17:47 of the second period to complete the improbable comeback.
Bartus was sensational in net yet again for the Huskies, stopping 38 shots to earn the 3-3 tie. Bartus denied 24-straight shots in the remaining 22:10 to lead Connecticut. He's now recorded at least 35 saves in three of four games this season. Bartus has been named to the AHA Honor Roll two weeks in a row after earning Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week Honors on October 11 after stopping 40 shots in a 3-3 tie at No. 7 Maine.
The Huskies will return to Storrs for the home opener on Friday, November 5 against Canisius. The two teams will finish the weekend set with another contest in Connecticut on Saturday. Both games are set to begin at 7:05 p.m. in Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum.
