STORRS, Conn. - Kelly Horan (Methuen, Mass.) and Alexandra Garcia (Pointe-Claire, Que.) earned UConn's first Hockey East Weekly Awards of the season today (November, 15), as Horan was named Pure Hockey Player of the Week and Garcia was tabbed the WHEA Defensive Player of the Week. The Huskies extended their winning streak to three games last weekend with back-to-back victories over New Hampshire.
Horan and Garcia were both instrumental in UConn's victories over UNH last weekend, with the Huskies picking up a 1-0 victory at New Hampshire on Saturday (Nov. 13) and a 2-1 win over the Wildcats in the Freitas Ice Forum on Sunday (Nov. 14). Connecticut's 1-0 victory at the Whittemore Center marked the first time that UNH has lost on its home ice this season.
Garcia notched her first shutout of the year on Saturday when she posted 32 saves against the Wildcats. The game marked her seventh 30+ save contest of the season as she now has 358 stops on the year. Garcia came back with a 26-save performance against UNH on Sunday, allowing just one goal for a .983 save percentage and a 0.50 goals against average on the weekend.

Horan, who is the third Husky to record goals in back-to-back games this season, earns the Pure Hockey Player of the Week award after recording both game-winners over the weekend. Her goal in Saturday's contest was UConn's only power play goal of the series, while the Huskies were a perfect 6-for-6 on the UNH penalty kill over the two contests. Her game-winner on Sunday marked her third goal of the season and the ninth of her career.
The Huskies (4-7-1, 3-2-1), who are now tied for second in the Hockey East standings, will return to action this Saturday (Nov. 20) when they travel to Vermont for their lone contest of the week. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. in Burlington, Vt.
