STORRS, Conn. - Fresh off a weekend sweep of the New Hampshire Wildcats, the Huskies will hit the road for their lone contest this week. UConn will travel to Burlington, Vt. to face the Vermont Catamounts (1-4-7, 0-4-4) in a 2:00 p.m. WHEA match-up on Saturday (Nov. 20). This weekend's game will mark the first of the season between Connecticut and Vermont and the 16th all-time.
The Huskies (4-7-1, 3-2-1) enter the weekend on a three-game win streak and are currently tied for second place in the Hockey East standings. Over the past three seasons, UConn has outscored the Catamounts 38-6 and holds a perfect 9-0 record. Three of those victories have come as shutouts, while the Huskies have won six of the nine games by a three-goal margin of victory or better.
UConn's Kelly Horan (Methuen, Mass.) and Alexandra Garcia (Pointe-Claire, Que.) both enter Saturday's contest after picking up Hockey East Player of the Week accolades for their performances against UNH. Horan was tabbed the Pure Hockey Player of the Week while Garcia was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Last weekend, Horan notched both game-winners for the Huskies, as she became the third Husky to post goals in back-to-back games this season, joining teammates Jennifer Chaisson (Cumberland, Ont.) and Taylor Gross (Colorado Springs, Colo.).
Gross also continued her high-powered offense against the Wildcats, recording an assist in Saturday's game and the first UConn goal of the game on Sunday. Gross, who has a team-high eight points (5G, 3A), is joined by Chaisson (2G, 5A) and Horan (3G, 3A) as the offensive leaders for the Huskies so far this season. The trio has recorded at least one point in nine games this year, with all three of them recording a goal or an assist against Clarkson and Colgate.
Garcia recorded her first shutout of the season at UNH last Saturday, marking the seventh of her career. She combined for 58 saves on the weekend, allowing just one goal for a .983 save percentage and a 0.50 goals against average. As it stands, her .927 career save percentage is tops on the UConn all-time career chart.
Vermont enters Saturday's contest searching for its first WHEA victory of the season. Vermont's last three league contests have ended in ties, while its lone win of the season came against Yale in October. The Catamounts have been led by Roxanne Douville in net (.941 Save%, 1.90 GAA) while Celeste Doucet (3G, 4A) and Saleah Morrison (2G, 4A) have been the offensive charge for Vermont.
