Seven Field Hockey Standouts Earn All-Region Status

STORRS, Conn. - Seven University of Connecticut field hockey standouts have been honored as 2010 All-Mideast Region selections as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association on Thursday, November 18. Jestine Angelini, Melissa Gonzalez, Rayell Heistand, Anne Jeute and Sarah Mansfield were each honored on the First Team while Ali Blankmeyer and Cara Silverman earned Second Team recognition.
73 Connecticut field hockey players have now earned a total of 140 All-Region selections.
Gonzalez is one of five Huskies to earn All-Region status four times. Tracey Fuchs, Lauren Henderson, Kristen Kelly, and Lizzy Peijs are the others.
Rayell Heistand has earned All-Region status in each of the last two seasons.
The Huskies recently completed another successful season, sporting a 16-6 overall record and recording at least 15 wins for the 23rd time in program history. The Huskies have now won at least 15 games in 15 of the last 17 seasons.
The team advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the ninth year in-a-row and advanced to the Quarterfinal for the fifth time in the last eight seasons.
