Woods Announces 2011 Lacrosse Schedule

2011 Lacrosse Schedule
STORRS, Conn. - University of Connecticut head lacrosse coach Katie Woods announced the 2011 schedule this afternoon, which is highlighted by six home contests and a challenging BIG EAST slate.
"I am very excited about the 2011 schedule," Woods said. "The early season games against our non-conference opponents will be a good test to see where we are as a team before opening up the BIG EAST portion of the schedule."
Those early season games include just two home contests, as the Huskies host Binghamton on Friday, February 25 and Sacred Heart on Saturday, March 12. Prior to the Binghamton game, Woods and her squad will open the 2011 season at Iona in a 1:00 p.m. match-up on Saturday, February 19. Last season, the Huskies had a convincing win over the Gaels, walking away with a 17-7 victory.
Connecticut will travel to Hamden, Conn. to face Quinnipiac on Sunday, February 27, before heading south to face Boston College and Holy Cross at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida. UConn will take on the Eagles, who finished 2010 with a 12-6 record and a No. 18 national ranking, on Monday, March 7, before facing Holy Cross on Wednesday, March 9.
The Huskies will open BIG EAST play at home, when they host Rutgers on Saturday, March 19 before taking to the road for a pair of contests against non-conference opponents Canisius and St. Bonaventure.
UConn will face three 2010 NCAA tournament qualifiers during the middle of its conference slate, beginning with Georgetown, the defending BIG EAST champion. The Huskies will then go on to face Syracuse and Notre Dame, who combined for a 26-14 record last season, including a 12-4 mark in the BIG EAST.
In their final home stand of the season, Connecticut will face off with two other BIG EAST opponents, welcoming Cincinnati and Louisville to the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
The Huskies will play their final BIG EAST games on the road, when they try for their third consecutive victory over Villanova on Friday, April 29, before closing the 2011 regular season at Loyola on Sunday, May 1.
