STORRS, Conn. - For the first time since the 2006 season, the No. 7/7 University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team boasts the Hockey East's Bauer Rookie of the Month in freshman Elisabeth Stathopulos (Toronto, Ont.). Stathopulos led the rookies with five points in the 3-2-2 month for the Huskies. She was named the conference's Bauer Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Stathopulos tied her career-high with two assists against Boston College on Feb. 6 and made it a three-point weekend with an assist against New Hampshire (Feb. 7). Her assist against the Eagles was on the gamewinner in the 3-1 victory at Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum.
The Toronto, Ont. native was instrumental in the Huskies' 4-1 Hockey East Quarterfinal victory over then-No. 7/8 Northeastern on Feb. 28. She assisted the first Connecticut goal and scored the final in a three-goal scoring spree over one minute and 25 seconds of the first period.
She pulled in her second weekly accolade from the conference on Monday after having been named the Bauer Rookie of the Week on Oct. 12. This is the second monthly award received by Connecticut this season as sophomore Alexandra Garcia (Pointe-Claire, Que.) was acknowledged as the Hockey East' Bauer Goaltender of the Month for January.
Overall, Stathopulos leads the Huskies' rookie class with 22 points from eight goals and 14 assists. She has scored two gamewinners this year and has one power-play goal.
Brittany Wilson was the last UConn player to be named the Hockey East's Rookie of the Month during the 2005-06 season.
